Tax Notice Review Package
Tax Notice Review Package
Tax notices are often confusing, time-sensitive, and difficult to evaluate without understanding the procedural posture behind the notice. A notice may involve a proposed assessment, audit adjustment, balance due, penalty, missing return issue, information reporting mismatch, collection warning, lien or levy risk, refund hold, or appeal deadline. Responding incorrectly, or missing the deadline, can make the matter more difficult and expensive to resolve.
The Tax Notice Review Package is designed for individuals, businesses, fiduciaries, and advisors who received an IRS or state tax notice and need to understand what the notice means, what deadlines apply, and what options may be available. This package may be appropriate for notices from the IRS, Franchise Tax Board, California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, Employment Development Department, state taxing agencies, or other tax authorities.
The review may include analysis of the notice, the tax period involved, the issue identified by the agency, the response deadline, whether the notice proposes or assesses tax, whether appeal or protest rights are available, whether penalties or interest are included, and whether additional records or transcripts may be needed.
The goal is to help the taxpayer understand the notice, identify immediate risks, avoid missed deadlines, and determine the appropriate next step before engaging in broader representation.
This package does not include preparation of a formal response, agency representation, protest filing, appeal, collection negotiation, audit defense, transcript analysis, or tax return preparation unless separately agreed in writing. If additional work is needed, The Karam Firm can provide a separate engagement proposal.
Additional notices can be reviewed by purchasing the Additional Tax Notice Add-On Service.
Includes: up to 1.5 attorney hours, review of one tax notice, review of up to 25 pages of related materials, one brief strategy call, and a written summary identifying the issue, deadline, risk level, and recommended next steps.
Additional work may be required for: formal notice responses, protest letters, appeals, audit representation, collection defense, penalty abatement requests, transcript review, multiple notices, multiple tax years, multiple entities, agency communications, or review of materials beyond the package limit.
Flat-rate packages are available for defined-scope matters only. Fees may vary based on complexity, number of tax years, number of entities, urgency, document volume, and whether additional representation is required. A flat-rate package does not include court appearances, audit representation, appeals representation, litigation, or negotiations with tax agencies unless expressly stated in a written engagement agreement.
